Millie Quinn passed away at the age of 91 on March 16, 2021. Millie was pre-deceased by her beloved parents Rose and Rocky Marinaccio, her husband John Francis Quinn and her son John Francis Quinn Junior, and is survived by her children and their mates Coyne Quinn, Janice (Bill Quinn-Weyant, deceased) Dennis, (Elaine) Maureen, (William Sweet) AnneMarie (Dale Lander) Mary, (Tracy Berger) Tim (Jane) and Carmel (Anthony Ewing). Millie is also survived by her brother Gene, too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to count, many cousins, one uncle, and many loving nieces, nephews and their extended families.

Born to parents Rose and Rocco Marinaccio on July 1, 1929 in Nutley, New Jersey, Millie was the first born child, followed by her brother Gene, two years later. Millie adored her very large Italian immigrant family of grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles from both sides, the Strafaci & Marinaccio clans, and spent many years enjoying them during her young years. In 1946, Millie’s dad moved the family out to Los Angeles for the booming construction industry that happened in California after World War II. Millie finished her senior year at Washington High School in Los Angeles, and went to work for the City of Los Angeles in the Records Department soon after. She met her husband John Francis Quinn at the age of 17, after graduation. They quickly fell in love, and were married on September 4, 1948, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Los Angeles.

Millie and John Quinn had 8 children, and they were raised in a loving environment, with great memories of family life and fun times. They moved to Lakewood California in 1952, and bought their Lakewood home on Montair Avenue. The Montair Avenue house became a great place to live, play and celebrate. With so many relatives and friends that came to the house to enjoy dancing, food, music, swimming, and celebrations, it became a wonderful house to grow up in, and provided our family, thanks to mom and dad, with a safe, fun, and memorable place for all to enjoy.

Millie was a strong, loving mom, who could always be counted on. She was strict yet kind, overworked yet heroic, but always had her family’s needs first in her everyday life as a homemaker and spiritual leader of our family. Thanks for mom and dad, we lived as the all American family, with few real problems, and were shielded in many ways from the tumult of the 60’s and the 70’s.

John & Millie Quinn were wonderful parents who spent all their time together as a loving devoted couple. Their love story was one that was written for the books, they enjoyed each others company and lived fully as a family. My dad was truly in love with my mom, and she with him. As parents and head of their lively family group of 8 children, they lived a very simple life, filled with laughter, fights, singing and church.

One of our parents most significant legacy was their love for God, their faith, and the Church. As a couple, they started the first bible study group, and the first prayer group at St. Cyprian Parish. They met and witnessed their love for the Lord to hundreds of people at St. Cyprian and elsewhere, and truly found their spiritual vocation. They were most likely the reason why their children stayed alive during those crazy times, as they were constantly praying for their family’s salvation as well as their safety. As a couple, John & Millie Quinn were an amazing gift to their children, parents, siblings, friends, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Millie Quinn passed away at the age of 91, having survived Covid in October, but her body finally failed her a few weeks ago. Her mind had failed her about 8 years ago, so she did suffer, similar to our dad, with dementia. Our love for our mom will always be a source of comfort for us, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, brother and friends. Millie Mom was a strong, tough cookie, filled with a strong love for her family, who always meant so much to her. More than anything our mom and dad taught us the importance of family, forgiveness and faith. Rest in peace Momma, you’re finally at peace with Dad and our Lord.
