Zenaida "Jean" Regis Avenilla

Zenaida ‘Jean’ Regis Avenilla of Cerritos, CA, passed away on August 25, 2022.

Zenaida was born on December 28, 1934 in Sogod, Leyte in the Philippines to Clemente and Consolacion Regis. She was a 1958 graduate of Baguio General Hospital’s School of Nursing. Zenaida completed her nursing residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While on a vacation to Chicago, she met and fell in love with Ernesto Avenilla, and they married on February 14, 1965 in Quezon City, and reared four children. They immigrated to the United States in June 1972, settling in the Los Angeles area where she continued her career as a Registered Nurse in the Southern California area. A loving and devoted mother, Zenaida was an active member of the Baguio General Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and served on its Steering Committee for the US and Canada. As a lifelong Catholic, Zenaida was always active in practicing faith and served on the choir and the Marian Society.  An avid traveler, she made trips to the Philippines, Hawaii, the East Coast and a very memorable visit to the Vatican. She enjoyed swimming, bowling, reading, knitting, cooking, attending Mass, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and other family and friends.

Zenaida was preceded in death by her devoted husband Ernesto (2017) and siblings Leopoldo, Pasencia, Prudencio, Clemente Jr., and Antonio. She is survived by her children, Louis, Elisabeth Joy, Frank (Emaida), Sheree (Robert), siblings Virginia, Norma, and Frank; and grandchildren Julian, Seren, Thomas, Amelia, Cameron, and Noelle.

A Visitation and Rosary will be held on  Wednesday, September 7 (4:00 – 8:00 PM) at the Luyben Dilday Mortuary  (  5161 E. Arbor Rd, Long Beach, CA 90808  ).

A funeral Mass will be held on  Thursday, September 8 (9:30 AM) at St. Pancratius Catholic Church  (  3519 St. Pancratius Place, Lakewood, CA 90712  ) presided by Reverend Father Andrew Chung and assisted by Deacon Frank R. Avenilla. The Rite of Christian Burial will take place immediately following the conclusion of Mass at Forest Lawn Memorial Park – Cypress (  4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630  ).
