In Loving Memory of William (B.I.) Mais

William (B.I.) Mais, born on February 9th, 1931, in Long Beach, California, peacefully passed away on November 9, 2023. He was a devoted family man, a proud alumnus of St. Anthony Grammar School and St. Anthony High School where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Jane Marie Kier.  Their love would span seven decades until her passing in 2006.

They exchanged vows on December 30, 1951, and started their new life in Berkeley, CA, as B.I. pursued his education at University of California, Berkeley. He started quarterback for the Cal Golden Bears in 1951 and 1952 and was selected as team Co-Captain with fellow Saint standout Johnny “O” in 1952.  After graduation, he served in the U.S Army and was stationed in Maine and Texas.

Jane and B.I. returned to Long Beach, where they raised their family of five boys and two girls. B.I. accepted a job with IBM and worked for them for the next 31 years. After his “retirement”, he followed his passion for the stock market and became the Director of Managed Accounts for the Chartist Investment Advisory Service, where he worked for the next 36 years.

B.I.'s heart belonged to his family, Cal Football, the Saints, golf and weekends at the Palm Desert Tennis Club. His enthusiasm for these passions was infectious, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his brother, Kenny Mais (Barbara), and sister-in-law, Liz Kier. B.I. leaves a lasting legacy through his children: Mike (Mary Jo), David (Sharon), Pat (Kathie), Steve, Kathleen, Chris (Lisa), and Susie. Cherished memories continue through his 20 grandchildren: Annie, Chris, Katie, Jonny, Matthew, Missy, Mary, Lindsay, Patrick, Michael, Amanda, Steve, Hannah, Steve, Janelle, Casey, Zach, Grace, Ellie, and Austin. B.I. was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Kaila, Caroline, William, Wesley, Avery, Sierra, Lucy, Vivian, Isak, Addy, Sam, Tanner, Charlotte and Hank.

A wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, B.I. will be dearly missed for his contagious smile, hearty laugh, and compassionate heart. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to B.I.'s caregivers, Liezl and Josie for their loving support and friendship during his final years.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Anthony High School at 620 Olive Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802 or here at this link. https://www.longbeachsaints.org/BIMais/

A memorial service to celebrate B.I.'s life will be held on Saturday December 9, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church 6180 E. Willow St. Long Beach, CA 90815.
