Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother “Wanda Jo Cue” passed peacefully on April 20th 2017 in Anaheim, CA at the age of 90 years. Wanda Jo leaves behind many who loved and admired her and her spirit including six children, fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Wanda Jo as she was affectionately called was born in 1927 in Olney, Texas and raised in her early years on a mid-western farm. It was here it is sure she acquired her grit, determination, discipline and values. Wanda Jo was the youngest of her three siblings whom preceded her in passing (J.E., Gene and Naomi). Late in her teen years a beautiful Wanda Jo met handsome Bob Cue a recently enlisted Navy serviceman. They married and then embarked on many international and domestic adventures including tours in the countries of Italy, Germany, Japan and the Philippines. These were enchanted times for Wanda Jo as she always spoke fondly of her travels and social activities with military families and friends, many of which she kept in touch with over her lifetime. After twenty-two years of military service Wanda Jo and Bob settled in Southern California to raise their six children. The marriage unfortunately did not endure and Wanda Jo and Bob separated. At this time Wanda Jo drew on that developed “True Grit” from her early years. She was a single parent with six children. She went back to school and developed her education and skills to secure several jobs over the years as administrative assistant. Despite the fact that money was tight, she insisted the younger children attend Catholic elementary school and attending Church was a must on Sundays at St. Cyprian’s in Long Beach. She was a sustained supporter of the St. Cyprians church over the years, which included volunteering to work at festivals and weekly donations. Throughout her children’s youth and as they grew older and moved away, Wanda Jo always hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas, holiday dinners. It was important to her to keep the family close and bonded. She enjoyed cooking these holiday meals with all the fixings. Despite the growing numbers in the family, Wanda Jo never seemed to miss a birthday note and present to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her limited spare time, Wanda Jo enjoyed bowling with friends. She participated in a women’s bowling league for many years and traveled with her team to compete in tournaments. She was an accomplished bowler with (167) career average including several games 200+.
The beauty of her youth never seemed to diminish and she seemingly defied the aging condition till her passing at 90 years. Despite her attractiveness she never remarried, as she remained devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We will miss you Wanda Jo and know you are with God and at peace with the life you lived and the love you shared.
