Vincent Daniel Piraino was born on March 9, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois. Moving to California with his baby sister, Nancy, when Dan was two years old, his parents Vincent James and Virginia soon bought a house in Lakewood on Josie Street where his younger siblings Anthony, Steven, Mark, and Donna were born. Growing up in a bustling home, Dan would have a lot of material to pull from for the stories he would tell the rest of his life about his eventful childhood.

Dan went to school at St. Maria Goretti until 8th grade. He went to high school at St. Anthony’s in Long Beach and later transferred to Lakewood High School where he graduated in 1965. Dan met Barbara in the summer of ’64, and Dan and Barbara married at St. Maria Goretti in 1967. Their daughter Teresa was born in 1968. Son Tony joined the trio in 1970, and daughter Stephanie completed the family in 1974.

Dan held various jobs in his early life including working as a forklift driver at Mattel Toys in Hawthorne. While working at Ladish Pacific Steel, Dan became involved in union activities which later led to his position in the Boilermakers Blacksmiths Union writing union contracts while negotiating for employees at several different companies. When Dan retired as Secretary/Treasurer in 2005, he was working in Bloomington for Local Union 92. Over the years, Dan made many good friends working for the Union and was able to travel to Washington D.C. and meet with U.S. congressmen asking for their support for good-paying union jobs for his fellow union members.

Dan was blessed with a great sense of humor and could light up a room with laughter. He always had a good story to tell. He was so much fun to be around. He loved baseball and football and was able to transfer that enjoyment to his son, Tony, while coaching and managing teams in Lakewood Pop Warner, East Lakewood Little League, and Heartwell Pony-Colt League. There he made many friends including his three best buddies, Tom Raymond, Rich Torres, and Larry Sather. His daughter, Terri, and son-in-law Mike Hansard gave him three wonderful grandsons, Adam, Nick, and Luke. Stephanie and son-in-law Mike Stembridge added more joy to his life with their sons Andrew and Justin. Dan couldn’t be prouder of each and every member of his family.

Dan was predeceased by his sister, Nancy, and brothers Anthony and Steven. The Lord decided to bring Dan Home on February 24, 2024. Although our hearts are broken, we are happy he is at peace. We know he is saving seats for us and that we will see him again in Heaven.
