Victor Masters was born March 3, 1914 in Lincoln County, Nebraska. Vic was the second eldest of eight sons and spent his youth and early adult years working as a rancher in Nebraska and helping raise his younger brothers. In 1941 Vic, like many of his brothers, enlisted in the Army to serve his country. During World War II Vic attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the bronze star for heroic achievement while serving in Germany. An even prouder moment, however, was when he met Virginia, the love of his life and they were married in 1944. Following the war, Vic and Virginia permanently settled in Long Beach where they raised their two children, Joy and Ken, and remained in their first home for their entire lives. In Long Beach, Vic learned the carpentry trade from Virginia’s father and eventually formed his own construction business, Masters Construction, with his son Ken. Vic was a warm, quiet, and humble man, who was a strong and gentle leader in every aspect of his life. He was devoted to his family and his faith, having been a member of the church of Christ for over 60 years, where he served as an elder and actually helped build the church building on Studebaker Rd. Vic enjoyed bowling and bowled with his Thursday night league for most of his life, even through his 101st year. Vic was known for his kind, sweet spirit. He was always cheerful, with a smile and a hug to offer everyone he knew. His friends and family were blessed to have known him. Vic passed away November 15, 2015 and is survived by his brother Gene, his children, Joy and Ken (Sandy); his grandchildren, Adriean, Daniel, and Torrey; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Julian, Olivia, Danny, Deondray, and Josslyn, and many other family members and loved ones. Vic was predeceased by Virginia, his wife of 64 years, who passed away in 2009. Visitation will be Friday, November 20, 2015, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 E. Arbor Rd., Long Beach 90808. A memorial service will be held November 21, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Studebaker Rd. church of Christ 3433 Studebaker Rd., Long Beach 90808.
