Tim Haley, loving father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the age of
70. He was the husband of Debbie (Taylor) and they were married for 32 years.
Born in Los Angeles to Joseph and Virginia Haley, Tim attended St. Paul of the Apostle
Elementary School, Daniel Murphy High School and Loyola Marymount University where he
was a member of the Basketball team.
Tim loved sports especially basketball, baseball and hockey. Dating another athlete seemed like
a natural match, and Tim and Debbie (Taylor) were married on November 18, 1989 at St.
Cyprian Catholic Church. Tim was a Catholic Educator for 45 years, teaching History, Coaching
Basketball and serving as a College Counselor at Bishop Montgomery High School, St. John
Bosco High School and for 27 years at Loyola High School before having to retire in 2019 due
to complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Tim also worked for a few seasons in the Ticket Booth at
Dodger Stadium. He battled MS for 23 years with everything he had along with the support of
his wife, children and the Loyola High School Community.
Tim was a role model for his children and never let his disease define who he was, or hinder his
ability to be there for them. He enjoyed watching them play sports and went to as many of their
games and activities as possible. That support continued with his granddaughter Charlie at her
various games and activities. Poppo used his love of teaching with his granddaughters as he
taught Charlie her colors by sharing M&M’s and had recently begun working with Rae in the
same way.
Tim’s love of sports, history, music and reading meant that there was always a game or history
documentary to watch, a Presidential Biography to read or a Beatles song to listen to. He
appreciated and was thankful he was cared for at home by his loving family as complications
from MS resulted in his declining health.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Haley and Virginia (Fischer) Haley.
He is survived by his wife Debbie (Taylor), his three children, Danny Haley (Jenna), Bryan Haley
(Cristin) and Sarah Ayala (AJ), his two granddaughters Charlie and Rae Ayala, and another
granddaughter on the way, and his sister Maureen Reider.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 10th at 10 am at St. Cornelius Catholic Church with
a Rosary preceding mass at 9:30 am. Following mass, there will be a reception in the St.
Cornelius hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Loyola High School, 1901 Venice
Blvd Los Angeles 90006, in honor of Tim Haley. (Tim requested that his family and friends wear
their favorite sports team jersey or Dodger Blue to celebrate his life.)
