Timothy (Tim) Edward Reck
Born December 9th, 1960, passed away July 14th, 2016, at home, surrounded by his immediate family in Lakewood, CA after a courageous battle with cancer.
Tim was born in Northridge, CA. His family moved to Downey, CA in 1964. He graduated PIUS X High School (Downey, CA) in 1979.
He began his professional career as an aircraft mechanic and aerospace technician at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach in 1991. In 1997 he worked at Boeing International on the International Space Station. To this day, there is still a handle on the space station that Tim personally installed. He then worked at Sea Launch in 1998 (a newly created division of Boeing at the time). He was part of a team that was responsible for launching communication satellites from the equator off of a floating launch platform in the Pacific. He was an excellent worker with great team values.
Tim loved his family and friends, sports and the outdoors. He loved water skiing, snow skiing and motorcycle riding in his younger days and took many trips with his family and friends. He then played golf and enjoyed the time on the course (and the “19th hole”) with his buddies. He also enjoyed camping and most recently would travel locally on short trips in his 5th wheel (trailer) to enjoy the outdoors, sunsets and campfires. He had a vacation home in Arizona where he enjoyed taking his boat on Lake Mohave. He was a do-it-yourself kind of guy and accomplished many projects at his homes and the homes of his step-daughters. He loved the Raiders (season ticket holder in Los Angeles) and travelled many times to Oakland to cheer them on. He was also a big Dodger fan and enjoyed going to games with friends and family.
Tim was the third son of Floyd and Jeanne Reck (both deceased).
He is survived by his wife Diane, brothers Chris Reck, Steve Reck, sister Kathy Reck and partner Tyler Huff. Also survived by his two step-daughters and their families: Amy Mockridge (Olivier), husband Rick, grandson Ryder and granddaughter Allissa; Rachelle Riemersma (Olivier), husband Jon and granddaughters Brooke and Brielle.
Tim was totally devoted and loyal to his family and friends and will be deeply missed by everyone. He made our lives richer and better and we all thank him for that. Everyone enjoyed Tim’s razor sharp wit, humor and spirit. He had a joke, one liner, retort for any occasion, and it came lightning quick. He was a joy to be around. We have lost a great person but have gained an angel that will watch over us forever.
Funeral services will be held July 30th at 11 am St. Cyprian Church in Long Beach and then Forest Lawn in Long Beach.
