It is with Deep and Heartfelt Sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Theodore Gufrey, both a Loving and Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. He was born on June 28,1945 and passed Peacefully from this life on May13, 2026 as he was Welcomed into his True Heavenly Home by Jesus. He leaves behind Charlene (his Loving wife of almost 58years ), Daughter and Son in law Carrie and Shawn, Son and Daughter in law Dan and Heather and His Precious Granddaughters Sophia and Hannah (the Greatest Joys of his life). All goodbyes were shared with Great Love and Immense Gratitude for a Unique Life Beautifully Lived.
Tom was a passionate and Unforgettable Spirit! He Fiercely Loved God, his Family, Our Country and Truth, as well as Chemistry! As a Professor he taught Chemistry both at Marymount College and CSULB for over 40 years where he was Celebrated for his Unique display of fiery demonstrations in his class and labs.First and foremost he Loved his students and mentored many of them, who were “adopted “ into Our family. Much more than just teaching them chemistry, he incorporated Life lessons about Integrity, Honesty and doing our Best to be Good Humans. “Kindness Matters” was His Legacy and reflected God’s Spirit within him.
In his retirement,he Loved seeking out and Ministering to those in need and those going through difficult times. He gave of himself authentically and generously with Heartfelt Intention of helping others and giving back. During retirement, he also very much enjoyed keeping his mind active. He read his newspapers daily and Loved to both listen and call in to Talk Radio quite frequently. Pretty sure he was one of their Favorite Callers! He also had fun working out the “Jumbles and Wordy Gordy” both with his family and his Best friend of over 60 years Larry (also an Amazing Professor of Chemistry!) He Loved spending time talking, laughing and doing backyard experiments with family, friends and neighbors and anyone who was interested in observing his current lesson! He will be Forever Missed by all who were Blessed enough to know and Love him! May God Bless his Sweet Soul!!!
Sweet Tom, YOU will be Greatly Missed for your Unique Spirit that touched so many lives. And now, We Celebrate your New Life with the greeting of the Lord,
