Dr. Thomas Austin Gallagher II, Ed.D.; loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at his home, age 95 on February 21, 2015. Tom was a Long Beach resident for over fifty years. Born April 4, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan, Tom was a veteran of WWII. He was stationed in the Pacific and in Europe and was at the "Battle of the Bulge" as part of the Fighting 69th Infantry. Thomas was a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California. His career included work as a Teacher, Principal, Curriculum Director and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum. He was active in the Long Beach Council of Camp Fire and served as President of the Long Beach chapter of the California Retired Teacher's Association, which maintains a student scholarship in his name. He is preceded in death by daughters Marilou Lords and Linda Ris, and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Louisa P. Gallagher, and adult children Scott Conner, Sharon Miles, Patricia Cates, and Tom Gallagher III. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to St. Luke's Episcopal or Camp Fire. Service and reception will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Long Beach at 1:00PM on Thursday, February 26, 2015.
