Thomas Andrew Devereux was born January 23, 1945 in San Diego, California. He was the youngest of four sons to Pershing and Phyllis Devereux. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Scherm Devereux of 55 years, and his daughters Michele Moore, Nicole Scalas, and his son Richard Devereux; as well as his sons-in-law Scott Moore and John Scalas and his daughter-in-law Amy Cardalino Devereux. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Jacob Moore, Kaitlyn Moore, Amelia Scalas, Sara Scalas, Jack Scalas, Julia Scalas, Theresa Devereux, and Logan Devereux. Tom is also survived by his brother Charles Devereux.

Tom grew up in San Diego, graduated from San Diego State, served in the Army in Vietnam, and went into Public Administration before switching careers into education, where he taught social studies and history at Stanford Middle School and Long Beach Poly High School.

Tom was an active member of St. Cyprian’s Catholic Church for 43 years, serving as a lector, youth group organizer, confirmation leader, marriage and engaged encounter leader.  His greatest achievements were being a devoted husband to Beth and father to his children.  He was well-loved and will be remembered fondly for his humor, intelligence, and caring heart.
