Theresa Marie Stewart

Theresa Marie Stewart, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 22, 2016 at her home in Long Beach, California. She was born August 2, 1926 in Dowagiac, Michigan. Theresa is survived by her son, Gary Stewart (Susan), grandchildren Michael Stewart (Angela) and Holly Foreman (Charles), and great grandchildren Emerson Stewart, Jackson Foreman and Conrad Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband John Stewart; parents, Stephan and Elizabeth Martynowicz; brothers, Romuald and Edmund Martin; sister, Isabelle Roberts; and great-granddaughters Esme Stewart. Theresa was a registered nurse for over 40 years, working in hospitals in both Nebraska and California. Early in her nursing career, she worked in one of the first hospitals to perform artificial valve replacement surgeries. For the last decade of her career, she served our country's veterans at the Veterans' Administration hospital in Long Beach, California. An avid sports fan, Theresa held Angels season tickets for nearly 25 years with her husband John. She also loved to follow the Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Cubs. Her greatest joy came in spending time with loved ones and traveling. Theresa will be missed by all who knew her. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00 pm at the Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 E. Arbor Road, Long Beach. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 29, 2016, 10:30 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The Salvation Army or Theresa's place of worship, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Long Beach.
