Teresa Fuentes Marrujo, age 92, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loved ones on July 7, 2021. Teresa was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 28, 1929 to Cesario and Anita Fuentes. She was their youngest daughter. While in college, Teresa met and married Ernest Marrujo, the love of her life, who preceded her in death in 2004, after 54 years of marriage. Together they raised their four children Michael, Gregory, Christopher, and Teresa.
After purchasing their home with the GI Bill, Teresa and Ernest moved to Lakewood with their two young sons, Michael and Gregory, in 1955. Later they welcomed the arrival of their last two children Christopher and Teresa (Terri). An original Lakewood homeowner, she remained on her beloved Allred Street for nearly 66 years, until her passing.
A devout Catholic, Teresa, was a longtime parishioner of St. Pancratius for more than 65 years. All four of her children attended and graduated from St Pancratius.
Teresa was a caring, strong, intelligent, and beautiful person. She loved her family dearly and instilled the importance of education into her children. She returned to college as an adult, and completed her nursing degree as a LVN and later earned her RN. She worked at Long Beach Memorial Hospital as a critical care nurse until she retired in 1989, after nearly 20 years. Both feisty and sweet she was always good for a silly, funny, or witty remark. Teresa enjoyed being with her family and she will be forever in their hearts. She now joins her beloved husband Ernie, great-grandson Quincy, and her parents and siblings in Heaven.
She is survived by her children Michael and his wife Lucienne, Gregory and his wife Teresa, Christopher and his wife Sylvia, and her daughter Terri; her grandchildren Kara, Kelsey, Steven, Brian, Alicia, Jessica, Gregory, Michael, Beth, Amy, and Megan; her great-grandchildren Tony, Ernie, and Owen; and her sister Aurora.
A special thank you to the team from Optimal/Bristol Hospice and Caretaker Remy for the loving care they helped provide, which allowed her to stay at home with her daughter in the final years of her life. Also, a very special thank you to Jerry (Eucharistic Minister), Father Andrew, and Father John for their meaningful visits.
