Teresa Luella Dewey

Born February 29, 1920, the 69-year resident of Long Beach passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on June 27, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was the fourth of nine children born to Lawrence and Blanche (nee Burke) O’Malley. Born in Chambers, Nebraska, Teresa spent her childhood on a cattle ranch in Holt County, Nebraska. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill, NE and then studied at the University of Nebraska. Along with raising her daughters, she was employed by the Long Beach Unified School District for twelve years serving in a variety of secretarial positions. Teresa married Loring James Dewey on November 29,1952 at St. Basil Church in Los Angeles and was a founding member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Long Beach. She was involved in a variety of volunteer activities at St. Joseph Church and at the Precious Life Shelter. Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Loring James Dewey along with her siblings, Eileen Dowd, Ednamarie Haggerty, Sister Mary Faith O.P. (Isabelle), Joe O’Malley and Millie Goggins and her son-in-law Thomas Donohoe . She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Donohoe and Ann Dewey along with her grandchildren, Andrea Donohoe, Regina (Will) Reed, Patrick Donohoe and great grandchildren, Alison and Charles Reed. Her brothers, Jerry and Leo O’Malley along with her sister, Loretta Hargaden also survive Teresa with numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6180 E. Willow St. in Long Beach, CA. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA.
