Susan Denise Stewart

Susan Denise Stewart, age 69, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Stewart, son, Michael Stewart (Angela), daughter, Holly Foreman (Charles), sister, Roberta Hamfeldt, and grandchildren, Emerson Stewart, Jackson Foreman, Conrad Stewart, Nolan Stewart, Caroline Foreman, and Eleanor Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Margaret Hamfeldt, sister, Linda Hamfeldt, granddaughter, Esme Stewart, and nephew, Erik Fitzpatrick.

Susan worked as a physical therapy assistant for several years to help support her husband while he went to dental school. After Gary became a dentist, Susan spent the next 42 years of her life as a mother, grandmother, and homemaker. As a mother, Susan raised Michael and Holly in a loving, caring manner but also with firmness and honesty. She made birthdays, Christmases and Halloweens special for her kids with great parties, good presents, and handmade custom costumes. Family vacations were both fun and educational as Susan could not pass up a single Historical Landmark sign along the side of the highway. As a grandmother, she loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She doted on them, took care of them, but most of all she enjoyed buying them gifts. As a homemaker, Susan created a home that was always family first and family always. She made the Stewart home famous with her well-stocked pantry of goodies. In addition, Susan loved animals just as much as she loved her humans. From feeding the squirrels and birds in the yard to taking care of her dogs and cats over the years, she always had a way with animals. Susan’s hobbies included reading and genealogy. She traced her family lineage back to the early 1600s, an accomplishment she was extremely proud of and spent countless hours on.

Susan had a beautiful spirit and a generous heart, and she will be missed by all who knew her. A viewing will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the Luyben-Dilday Family Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd., Long Beach. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn, Cypress, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in memory of Susan to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the American Cancer Society.
