Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend, Susan Lin Miller passed away, unexpectedly, Monday August 5th at age 70 and is dearly missed by all who know her. She leaves behind her Father, Frank S. Huber, Husband Robert W. Miller, Son, Gary A. Miller, Daughter, Cheri L. Smith, and Beloved Grand Daughters Kaylee and Kelsea Smith.
She was born the Daughter of Frank and Beverly Huber in Los Angeles and enjoyed growing up in Lakewood, CA. At Lakewood High School, she and her best friend Mary Crutcher aspired to be Cheerleaders and persisted until they made the squad as Lancerettes. Here they made great memories together. Susan graduated in 1967 and then met her Husband Bob at the popular hang-out, Cinnamon Cinder. Bob and Sue were married soon after on February 3rd, 1968. The following year, their son Gary was born on January 1st, 1969, followed by their daughter Cheri on July 4th, 1971. Their first house was in Cerritos. They shared many great trips, with classic 70’s music marking the times, going camping with family in Shasta, Crestline, Ormans’s Resort, then Desert Hot Springs and Yosemite in their family trailer. About the time the kids were starting off to school, they bought the house across the street from her beloved parents. This is where she spent the rest of her life making a happy home with her family.
Sue was an expert homemaker. Her days were devoted to making sure her family was well taken care of, fed, their clothes were clean, their homework was done and making sure they all felt loved. She was very crafty. When her daughter was little, she made some of her clothes. She even made them matching dresses. She also sewed the kid’s original Halloween costumes. All through her life, she loved to crochet. Sue won a contest in a book for original designs. She was very devoted to her mother and for some time they held the Busy Bee Boutique annually to sell their beautiful hand-made items. Sue continued to make beautiful baby blankets, sweaters, bonnets and booties for all the expecting arrivals. Sue was good at decorating cakes and always came up with original creations for her daughter’s and later, granddaughter’s birthdays. The homemade food that she made was comforting. Spaghetti and Meatballs, Pot Roast and Noodles, Chicken Roll Ups, Chili, Stew and Scones (which we always had for breakfast on New Year’s Day), are favorites of her family and her potato salad is loved by all!
After the kids were grown, she discovered cruising with her family she has been sailing the seas ever since meeting new friends all along the way. Sue has travelled to Mexico, Alaska and to her dream destination, Hawaii, and back. This was a dream come true because she avoided flying at all costs. On the latest trip they travelled to Bora Bora and Fiji. Her days were devoted to her family, whose needs were her priority. When she found time to take for herself, she enjoyed sitting on a ship balcony. Being by the water was her favorite way to relax. She was scheduled to take off on her next cruise next month with her husband and father, but, God had plans for her to set off to her ultimate destination in Heaven.
Susan was the greatest caregiver. Her Grand Daughters were dearly close and loved going to “Grandma’s house”. Her great nieces and nephews enjoyed coming there too. Her door was always open and her heart was full of love to give them. She recently had been taking good care of her Father, the example in which she lived by, at their home. Each week, they took him to Curley’s, in Signal Hill, after her mother passed away at age 72. Here they sang along to his favorite Dixieland music, met some great friends and shared many happy times.
Everyone thought Susan to have a cheery, sunny disposition. She always carried a smile on her face. Sue was always ready to help others and offered whatever she could, as her parents showed her. She gave all that she could until she could no more. Had she known her fate in advance, it would have been hard for her to bear parting ways with all those she loves on Earth. She passed away quickly and flew off to all of those she has been missing and will be happily be awaiting us all with open, angel wings.
A funeral service will be held to celebrate her life on Tuesday, August 13th, at 11am at Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd, Long Beach, Ca 90808, followed by her burial at Long Beach Forest Lawn and reception at the Lakewood Country Club Ballroom. Her favorite color is pink and she likes yellow, bees and butterflies. If you can incorporate these items in your attire or arrangements it will bring cheer to all who love her.
