In Loving Memory of Steven Bora Chanto

The best husband, daddy/daddyO, brother, Ta (grandpa) and UmPros (uncle).

Steven Bora Chanto was born on July 17, 1956, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He passed away peacefully at home in Long Beach, California, on January 24, 2026 at 12:46 a.m. surrounded by love and comfort.

Steven survived the Khmer Rouge war in Cambodia and went on to build an incredible life and legacy in America, one rooted in perseverance, devotion to family, and quiet joy. He made Long Beach his home, where he became the heart and foundation of the Chanto family.

Steven graduated from Tulane University in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. He went on to have a successful career as a computer programmer, a path that took him across the world to Japan, Singapore, England, Australia and Mexico. His love for technology never faded, he truly thrived with multiple screens, always surrounded by his TVs. iPads, and phone, staying connected and curious.

Above all, Steven was a family man. A proud “girl dad” to his four daughters, he led with gentleness, patience, and unconditional love. He instilled strong morals and values, and wanted nothing more than for his family to be happy. He was the steady presence everyone leaned on—the family’s rock.

Steven found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved taking photos and videos, capturing everyday moments and sharing them as a YouTube creator. At family gatherings, it was guaranteed that you would see him holding up his phone recording everything with a smile. He loved coffee and was a home barista making the best foam hearts for his youngest daughter. He loved all kinds of food (especially sashimi), humming music wherever he went, and smiling at everyone he met. He had the cutest mannerisms, always saying “yo baby,” to his children and nieces or joyously saying “yahooo!” at any sign of excitement. He always ended his texts with a 😘 emoji, responding almost instantly. He occasionally spoke in the third person, lovingly telling his children, “Daddy loves you! 😘”, his grandchildren, “Ta loves you! 😘” or his nieces, “UmPros loves you! 😘” Steven openly expressed his love not only in words, but in everything he did.

Steven had a way of making people feel loved and at ease. His positivity, warmth, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His soul was vibrant and his smile was contagious.

Steven is deeply missed and forever cherished. We are eternally grateful to have had Steven in our lives. To know him was to love him and be blessed by his presence. His love lives on in his wives, his daughters, his grandchildren, his nieces, his brother, his mother and all whose lives he touched. His legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family—a beautiful life that will continue to be felt in every smile, every song hummed, and every shared memory.
