Steve Yaffee August 9, 1952 - May 2, 2016 Born in Compton, Steve was a beloved teacher with Long Beach Unified for over 30 years. His talent noted, he was tapped by the Superintendent for the Math Dept. to "Instruct Teachers How to Teach Math." He met Tish when they were both at Madison Elem. They reconnected after a reunion, and it was truly Happily Ever After for them. Steve was a Humanitarian who cared for the Earth & all its life. His lifelong love for the ocean began with early family trips to Laguna, continuing during Whittier College and on to scuba trips and ocean travel. He attended U of Azusa for his Masters. He and Tish shared a love for outdoor wilderness adventures, the passion for teaching, a commitment to environmental protection, Dodger blue running in their veins, Crystal Cove, Laguna, golf, Disney, museums, reading, politics, history, and travel, and the pure joy of a peaceful home filled with love and laughter. To quote his Nephew Mitchell, "You were at every holiday, birthday, and family gathering. It didn't matter what we were doing, as long as you and Aunt Tish were coming, I knew it was going to be fun. It's not fair that you are gone so soon, but I know you are in a better place. Rest in Peace Uncle Steve. I'll miss you." Steve is survived by his Partner & Love, Tish Bonner, also a LBUSD retiree. His Parents, Ron & Gene Yaffee. His Daughter, Carly Mulligan (Sean). An ICU head nurse, Carly flew to be by her Father's side during his last weeks of cancer battle. The Family is forever thankful for her wisdom and loving guidance. His Grandchildren, Emma & Jude. His Brothers Don & Barry. His loving Niece, Nephews, Cousins, and his many Family & Friends. Steve's Heroes? Hands down, Sandy Koufax & Vin Scully. Steve's famous expressions: "Dream Big," "Forgive quickly, kiss slowly," "I'm listening," "Sometimes the best throw is the one you never make," "Whatever you do, support each other with love and kindness," "Respect and take care of the Earth and it's life and oceans," "Root for the Dodgers. Not any other team, especially not the Giants!" Steve, I know you are listening to the Beatles and Jackson Browne, and talking with John Lennon. Every Dodger game has clear reception now. We love you. You are and always will be my Happily Ever After. Services for Steve were held privately.
