Stanley was born in Inglewood, CA to his parents, Sankey Moody Van Amburgh and Margaret (Dearking) Van Amburgh. He lived in Hawthorne CA with his parents and sister Eleanor before moving to San Gabriel. Friends introduced him to his future wife, Joan Smith during high school. They were married in 1953. Soon after, he was drafted and sent to Korea where he fixed jeeps. He returned home in 1955.to Temple City, where he owned a Honda shop for many years and continued to build and fix motorcycles after retirement.

Stan and Joan were married for 59 years. Joan passed away October 14, 2012. Stan moved to Brookdale of San Dimas in the summer of 2014. Eventually his Alzheimer's became severe and he was tired and missed Joan. He smiled and went to join his loving wife. Joan and Stan were loving parents to daughter, Lisa Getze and son, Mark Van Amburgh. They also leave behind grandchildren Denise and Michael Getze, son-in-law George Getze and daughter-in-law Charma Burkhalter.

Services to be held December 29 at 2:00pm. Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA.

Van Amburgh, Ella (Joan)

April 5, 1933 – October 14, 2012

Ella Joan Smith was born to Elford and Myrth Smith of Los Angeles Ca.. Joan's older sister was Shirley and her brother was Chesley. Myrth became a widow when the children were 5, 4 and 2 years. The family moved to a little house in San Gabriel that was behind Myrth's beauty salon. Joan went to school with her sister after high school before joining their mother's business. Joan married Stanley in 1953. They had 2 children, Lisa in Dec. 1959 and Mark in 1962. Joan was a loving mother. She was a girl scout leader for a few years. She and Stan had many adventures with the scouts.

The family had a trailer in Bullhead City. They enjoyed swimming and water skiing. She also did the office work for Stan at his automotive business. Joan lived for a year in Montebello, Ca. Stanley was with her much of the time before her death in October 2012.

Joan will be with Stanley at Riverside National Cemetery Services to be held December 29 at 2:00pm. Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd, Riverside, CA.
