Sarah "Sally" Patricia Bussell

Sarah “Sally” Patricia Bussell (Devaney) passed away September 27th, 2022, at the age of 92.
Sally was born to Irish immigrants from Galway Bay, Ireland, Mary “Molly” and Michael Devaney, in New York, NY in 1930. Sally, along with her only sibling, Mary, went through Catholic school in the Washington Heights Neighborhood of New York City. After high school, with the encouragement of her father, Sally went into the medical profession and became a nurse. During this time Sally met her future husband, Larry Bussell, while out dancing with mutual friends. Sally and Larry were married in 1949. The couple moved to Upstate New York, where they helped run Larry’s family-owned gas stations. After a few years in Upstate New York, the couple moved out to California. Sally continued her career as a perioperative nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital, and Larry became a longshoreman.

Sally loved to travel in her RV, to swim, and to visit the beach. Sally also loved her many dachshunds and reading. Sally had a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate ice cream. Sally was dedicated to the family she had and the loved ones who became family.

Those who knew Sally spoke of her as, “one-of-a-kind” and “quite a character”. Sally was a cherished friend and grandmother. Her sense of humor and devotion to her friends and family will be greatly missed.

Sally is survived by her niece Sara, great-niece Victoria, nephews Jay and Michael, as well as her grandchildren Amanda, Xandria, Chris, Jade, London, Cole and Connor, and her great-grandchildren Makenzie and Ella.
