To our Family and Friends,

As we share in the sadness of the passing of our dear loving Sandy. We open our thoughts to the memories we will have forever in our hearts, and we share in the sorrow of knowing how much she will be deeply missed.

Sandy was born in Fresno, California on August 17, 1956. Although she was born in Fresno, she and her parents, Frank and Frances Contreras, and most of our family members lived in Lakewood, California where Sandy grew up. Sandy grew up and attended school and church in Lakewood, CA where she spent many years experiencing great adventures and making lifelong friends. Sandy attended MacArthur Elementary, Bancroft Jr. High and Lakewood High School, where she graduated in 1974. Our family attended St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church on Palo Verde Ave. in Long Beach, where Sandy made her First Communion, completed her Catechism classes and attended Sunday School. One of Sandy’s first jobs was at the local car wash during her High School years. She met a few co-workers at the Car Wash, who she also stayed friends with for many years. Sandy eventually went to work for the Graber Corp. where she met another dear friend, who we all called ‘Little Esther’. She then worked for UPS as a Billing Clerk for close to 25 years before she retired. Sandy had a way to draw people close to her with her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, sense of humor, and mostly her kind and generous heart. Sandy gave to so many others generously and unconditionally, even when she had very little.

Sandy is Preceded in death by her late husband Alexander Hernandez, and her late partner of many years Fernando Alvarez. She is also preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, Frank and Frances Contreras, and 6 of her 8 Siblings.

Sandy is survived by her two Sons Alexander and Richard Hernandez, her 2 Grandsons Aiden Hernandez and Alexander Hernandez, 4 Siblings, 9 of her 15 Nieces and Nephews, her extended Hernandez and Alvarez family, Cousins, family friends and lifelong friends she met along the way, that she always treated like family.

As we celebrate Sandy’s life, we can all agree that although our hearts hurt for her today, we will trust in the Lord to guide us to the peace and comfort we will soon know and understand. Sandy has touched so many hearts and has filled our lives with very special and wonderful memories. She will be missed very much, but her love, kindness, generosity and the memories we share of her will be with us in our heart ‘Always and Forever’ .

May she rest in eternal peace and in the arms of her faithful and loving Lord and Savior. We love you, Sandy.

Revelations 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away”.
