Russell "Rusty" Warren Doty

Russell ‘Rusty’ Warren Doty, 64, went home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2023 following a heroic 3 year battle with Pancreatic cancer.

Rusty is survived by his wife of 41 years, Catherine (Biere) Doty, son Devin Doty, daughter in law, Emily Doty, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Madison & Grayson.

Born December 5, 1958 in El Monte, CA to parents, Chuck and Lorraine Doty, Rusty, along with his sister, Linda (Doty) DeSilva, grew up on a quiet cul-de-sac in Whittier, CA. He attended and graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1977.

After high school, Rusty started working with his dad at Christie Electric, where he met Cathy. He then transitioned to be a Paint & Grind Supervisor at Swift Cor. In November 1999, Rusty began his career at Valley Christian Schools as a bus driver. God then blessed him with a position in the Maintenance & Transportation department where he faithfully served the bus drivers, maintenance & campus staff, as well as the students. He always inserted a sense of humor into his work, enjoyed joking with his bus riders and was always a dependable person to have around campus.

Rusty and Cathy were married in La Mirada, CA on August 7, 1982 at La Mirada Friends Church. In 1984, they proudly welcomed son Devin to the world and Rusty couldn’t have been prouder to be a dad. There was always an extra seat at the table for his son’s friends and neighborhood kids and Rusty would always take time to impart his wisdom. The Doty’s were active in their church, attending small groups, events and gatherings. Rusty and Cathy could also be found riding around the desert on their quads and dirt bikes, playing Mexican Train, and having a good time with their friends.

Above all, Rusty loved spending time with his family. Whether it was taking his son to conventions, or road trips to Laughlin with his wife, he was always ready for an adventure. He stayed close with his sister and brother-in-law and made sure to always keep a watchful eye on each of his nieces and nephew. He was overjoyed when his son got married in 2013, and was blessed with a granddaughter in 2016. Rusty and Madie were two peas in a pod and often loved to share a big piece of chocolate cake. Then, to fulfill Rusty’s request to continue the family name, he was blessed again with his grandson Grayson. He was so proud of his grandchildren and they were his motivation each and every day.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Light and Life Church in Downey, CA on December 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm.
