In Loving Memory of Rose Lozano
December 1, 1934 – October 4, 2024
Rose will be fondly remembered for her friendly, kind-hearted nature, unwavering dedication to family and friends, impeccable sense of style, gracious hosting, and the beautiful home and garden she lovingly tended.
Born on December 1, 1934, to Dominic and Frances Krier in the small town of Bellechester, Minnesota, near Red Wing, Rose was the youngest of six children—Grace, Robert, Stella, Eleanor, and Maxine (“Micki”). Raised in the home her father built, the family faced tragedy after his untimely passing in a car accident when she was just four years old. The family then moved to Red Wing. Even as a child, Rose took on the special role of being an aunt, as one of her sisters was twenty years her senior. She fondly recalled days spent with her nieces Joanie, Marty, and Judy.
“Rosie” graduated from Red Wing High School in 1951, and soon after, she and her mother relocated to Long Beach, California, to join her sister Micki. Tragedy struck again when Micki was diagnosed with cancer in her late 20s, and Rose moved in with Micki and her husband, John, to help care for her until she passed away at just 30. While her mother returned to Minnesota, Rose chose to remain in Long Beach.. She worked in a dress shop and later in a stockbroker’s office. It was through the Catholic Singles Club that Rose met Joe, winning his heart with her cooking. On April 9, 1961, Rose and Joe were married at St. Bartholomew Church, and from that day forward, Rose was delighted to be a member of Joe’s family. Joe affectionately called her “Rosebud,” with their marriage spanning 54 years.
Rose and Joe built a life together. Their first daughter, Julie, was born in 1962, followed by Kathie in 1963, and Michelle in 1967. In 1964, they moved to a new development, College Park Estates in west Long Beach, where they would remain for the rest of their lives. Their home became the center of activity, surrounded by wonderful lifelong friends, a park across the street for their children, and countless cherished memories.
Rose’s greatest joy and passion was her family. She was the epitome of a loving, devoted mother, always creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love, delicious meals, and a garden that was the envy of the neighborhood. Her energy seemed boundless, and she had an incredible talent for making everything special. Whether it was sewing beautiful costumes, clothes, home décor items, or hosting unforgettable Christmas Eve celebrations and birthday parties, Rose did it all with grace and care. She was also the Girl Scout leader, room mom, and the queen of thoughtful gifts, always wrapped to perfection.
As her daughters grew older, Rose dedicated herself to volunteering. She volunteered for many years with St. Mary’s Guild, eventually serving as president, raising funds and making lifelong friendships. Later, she also joined the Goodwill Guild.
Together, she and Joe enjoyed having friends over for dinner and card games, attending the Long Beach Pops Symphony with friends, and sometimes Rose would attend car shows with Joe in his 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery truck. In 1990, they became members of the Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC), where they formed more dear friendships and enjoyed club trips, events, and even helping out at some race events. Rose became a big sports fan in her later years watching football, basketball, and baseball.
Rose’s pride and joy grew even greater with the arrival of her first granddaughter, Kelsey, in 1990. Over time, Rose and Joe were blessed with six granddaughters and her family was thrilled she was able to share in the excitement of the birth of her three great-granddaughters. “RaRa,” as she was affectionately called by her granddaughters, was an adoring and ever-present grandmother, attending school events, games, and shows, and hosting an annual Palm Springs Girls Trip that became a beloved tradition. Her granddaughters—Kelsey, Madison, Samantha, Shelby, Sydney, and Sabrina—and great-granddaughters—Hayden, Harper, and Kennedy—were the lights of her life.
A devout Catholic, Rose rarely missed a Sunday Mass and continued to attend outdoor services during the pandemic. After Joe’s passing in 2017, she found comfort in her friendships, attending St. Joseph’s Seniors Club, LBYC Butterfly Group and Breakfast Group, gardening, and spending as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and her favorite granddog, Paisley.
Rose’s legacy lives on through her loving family: her daughters Julie (Rick) Beall, Kathie Sitton, and Michelle (Mike, deceased 2011) Samuelson; her granddaughters Kelsey (Brandon) Petersen, Madison (Kevin) Alba, Samantha Sitton, Sydney Sitton, Shelby Samuelson, and Sabrina Samuelson; and her great-granddaughters Hayden and Harper Petersen and Kennedy Alba. She was blessed with a lifetime of wonderful friends and neighbors who brought so much joy to her life. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to those who showed her love and compassion, as well as to the hospice caregivers who helped care for her in her final days. They are also deeply grateful to their own friends for their support in the loss of their adorable mom.
Rose passed away peacefully at her beloved home, surrounded by family, on October 4th. Her beautiful smile, shining silver hair, generosity, thoughtfulness, and unending love will never be forgotten. Her life was a lesson in how to live with grace, love, and kindness, and her memory will forever be carried in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her.
