Mrs. Rosalinda Yumol-Brandow, born on April 25, 1949, in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, to the late Wenifreda Fuertes-Yumol and the late Andres Yumol, passed away at age 69, on May 25, 2018 in Long Beach, California. She graduated from Puerto Princesa Pilot Elementary School in 1964 and graduated from the Palawan National High School in 1967. At the early age of 12, she was recognized by the Governor of Rizal for her talent for running and was recruited to live, train and attend school with a focus on physical education at the Rizal Memorial Sports Academy Complex. She soon became a member of the Philippine National Track & Field Team competing in national and international events where she held records in the 800m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relays. She was the first Philippine woman to compete in international marathons including Boston, Hawaii, Vancouver, Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia. From 1970 to 1980 she enlisted in the Philippine Army and achieved the rank of Tech Sgt. While she continued to compete with the National Track Team. During the mid ‘80s, she came to the USA for Olympic trials and had remained in the States since. By 1990, she moved to the West Coast where she worked 25 years in the medical field as a CNA at St. Mary’s Medical Center-Long Beach until she retired in 2015. Rosalinda and David Brandow met in 1997 and married in 1999. She became a U.S. Citizen by 2006 and held dual citizenships with the U.S. and Philippines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Wenifreda, brothers Andres “Jun” Yumol Jr. and Albert “Abet” Yumol; grandmothers, Engracia Durana-Fuertes and Guadalupe Manuel-Yumol; and grandfathers, Delfin Fuertes and Manuel Yumol. Rosalinda is survived by her sons, Joy Ross “Boyet” Santiago and Seagfred “Jessie-Boy” Yumol; stepson Bryan Brandow; stepdaughter Jamie Russel; brothers, Fortuno “Tony” Yumol and Arnel “Boy” Yumol; and sisters Ethelrida “Ethel” Sanidad, Luziminda “Luz” Lacao, Erlinda “Erly” Felizarte, Esther Yalung, Sherline “Bing” Pace, Marlene “Baby” Alinsinurin, and Mary May “May” Kubinec; and 8 grandchildren, her pride and joy, including Isay, Feyfey, Jaysie, Princess, Umi, Peypey, Kali and Tyler. Rosalinda had a passion for gardening and took great joy in bringing flowers to the cemetery every Sunday to honor David’s parents and grandparents. She was a prayer group member with El Shaddai.
