He attended Massillon High School and graduated in 1960. After serving four years in the United States Air Force, he worked 34 years as a computer engineer and in management with companies including UNIVAC, Computer Consoles Inc. and retired from Nortel in 1999.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including following all their sports activities, fishing, playing poker, and strolling through Harbor Freight- there was never a screwdriver, drill bit or bargain tool he couldn’t find room for on his tool bench. He also loved volunteering with Special Olympics and playing in golf tournaments with his friends, including playing in the Precious Life Shelter Annual Tournament in which his team won first place in 2008. He and Carole traveled to Europe visiting England, Wales and Scotland, but his favorite travel was to see his grandson play baseball at UCI including going to the College World Series, in Omaha. This was followed by traveling to Goodyear, Arizona to watch spring training, while his grandson was playing with the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Ron was patient and skilled in organizing events, always willing to support any parish activity. He could always be found working the annual St. Joseph Faire, fireworks stand, Octoberfest any related events for St. Joseph Catholic School. Ron was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, and volunteered with Movement for a Better World. His pride and joy was managing the KC bar and devoted many hours in KC activities including serving as the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 3629 in 1992.
Survivors include his wife Carole (Bryan) of 53 years, his daughter Julie Sparks (Don) and four grandchildren: Taylor, Kadie and Jake Sparks, Bryan Steiner, and a brother David Steiner (Jane) of Kettering, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Thomas J. Steiner.
