Ron, (Ronnie) Flower was born on December 21st, 1967 to Ronald and Joan Flower now deceased. He was the Christmas present to his two older sisters, Donna (1960) and Patty (1963). He was not just loved, he was adored.
He was not only the baby of his immediate family, he was the baby of the entire generation of cousins and to Long Beach, Imperial Estates neighborhood he grew up in. He was known for his cute grin, twinkling eyes, kind and gentle nature. He was the joy of his family.
He was affectionately called Lil Ron or Lil Ronnie as his dad was Big Ron to his family and his friends. Growing up Lil Ron enjoyed and excelled at playing football and baseball. He won “Most Coachable” awards and was known as a really nice, kind, amiable boy. He was a big history buff especially WWII. He could remember battles from D-Day to Battle of the Bulge. He also loved USC football. His dream was to play fullback for the Trojans. Unfortunately, Ronnie’s life was derailed by mental illness when he was about 16 years old. He graduated from high school from ABC School District.
Although, his life didn’t go as planned it didn’t mean Ronnie didn’t make an impact, because he did. He taught us to be kinder, more compassionate people and accepting of the mentally ill. Even after he was sick you could still see glimmers of the kind and gentle person we all knew. We met so many people along Ronnie’s journey that showed him and our family love and compassion. We are all better people because of Ron’s life. We love more, we are more accepting and kinder to the marginalized community of mental illness. Ron was known even to give his last .50 cents to homeless people. He was always respectful courteous to his caregivers. Ron liked being around his nieces and nephews and enjoyed being Uncle Ronnie. Ron’s journey was more difficult than most of us. He was incredibly brave until the very end.
Ron is survived by his adoring sisters, Donna Flower-Hill of Long Beach and Patty Loessberg, Lake Forest. His brother-in-laws, Bob Hill and Donny Loessberg. Nieces Hannah and Abigail Loessberg, nephew Spencer Loessberg. Aunts, Lillian J. Athons, and Tommey Jones. Many cousins all over the country and friends. We would like to thank all the caregivers for Ron at Palm Village, New Horizons Lodge, West Anaheim Hospital, Dr. Santos, Dr. Yip and Yip, UCI Medical Center, you all treated Ron with respect, dignity and gave him the very best care.
Fight on Lil Ron…Fight on!
