ROBERT W. SHEPPARD

December 16, 1938 - February 17, 2017

Robert Wayne Sheppard was born on December 16, 1938 in Metropolis, Illinois. After Graduating from high school in Phoenix, Arizona, Robert followed his passion for aircraft and joined the United States Air Force in 1960.

In 1967 after having been stationed at several different Air Force Bases, Robert was sent to Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California. While stationed at Norton AFB he met and married the love of his life, Marilyn, in August of 1967. In 1973 his only child, Kimberly was born.

In 1980, after 20 years of dedicated service Robert retired from the Air Force and moved his family to Fort Worth, Texas to pursue a career in aerospace. A year later in 1981, Robert moved the family to Long Beach, California where he continued to pursue his passion for aircraft. With the Associates Degree in Electronics he earned from Weber State College in 1979, and 20 years of hands on experience from the Air Force, Robert found a career in aerospace at Northrup Grumman. Robert enjoyed a 20 year career at Northrup as a Technical Writer and Avionics Systems Instructor.

Robert “Bob” Sheppard was the embodiment of DIY. There was nothing he could not repair. He mastered woodworking in his retirement and took great pleasure in building furniture for others. His passion was always for aircraft but the greatest joy of his life was his only Grandchild, Robert.

Bob Sheppard was a dedicated Husband, Father, Loving Grandpa and Friend to anyone who needed a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn Sheppard, Daughter Kimberly Hernandez, Grandson Robert Hernandez, Sister Nancy O’Donnoghue, and Brothers Michael and Charles Sheppard.

The Family kindly suggests a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project in Bob’s name as a way to honor his memory and service to our country.
