Robert Eugene Neary

Robert Eugene Neary, 89, went to be with our Lord in Heaven on Easter Sunday April 16, 2017. Bob, as he was commonly known, was born on December 12, 1927 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was the youngest of three boys.

He graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1946 and attended the Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa. Bob worked for 30 years as a journeyman printer at the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Bob was well known in his Lakewood Village neighborhood as he walked to daily Mass for many years and could be seen daily walking his beloved dog Codie, or walking to McDonald’s for his coffee and English muffin. His favorite pastime throughout retirement was hitting the links at local golf courses, especially Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach.

Bob is preceded in death by his two brothers, Jim Neary from Dillon, CO and Hugh Neary from Emmetsburg, IA. His wife of 38 years, Barbara Neary, passed away 2 years ago. He is survived by his daughters Jan Nordell from Aliso Viejo and Carolyn Kent and son-in-law Steve Kent from Houston, Texas as well as three beautiful granddaughters Amy, Madeline, and Meagan Kent.

A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Friday April 28, 2017 at St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Long Beach with a reception to follow.
