Robert Roghi Mendoza (affectionately known as Bob or Bobby), was born on March 7, 1947 to Josephine Roghi Mendoza and Henry Villaseñor Mendoza. He grew up in Willowbrook, California with his six siblings: Lalo, Elio, Teri, Dee Dee, Cha Cha and Kiki. He was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Fermin Lasuen, a small all-boys Catholic high school, located in San Pedro. In August 1966, Bob was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served in the Vietnam war. He was honorably discharged in August 1968. He was awarded the following medals and citations: the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge (C.I.B), for over 6 months of sustained action.

On August 12, 1972 Bob married Cecilia Ann Montaño, and together they raised their six children: Dolores, Bobby, Ricky, Andrea, Nikki and Mikey. His ultimate pride was in the birth of his nine grandchildren: Rachel, Danielle, Therin, Madison, Nicholas, Ian, Antonia, Tydin, and Evangeline. He was also blessed to know that a tenth grandchild was on the way!

Bob earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from California State University Dominguez Hills, and holds a Master in Education from Azusa Pacific University. Bob spent his life as a husband, father, grandfather (Papa), son, brother, uncle, Godfather and friend, but it was his roles as administrator, teacher, coach and ultimately mentor that would prove to truly fulfill him. Through these duties he formed friendships and helped to mold the lives of hundreds of young men in the South Central and East Los Angeles areas. The young men of Verbum Dei High School and Salesian High School were the driving force that fueled a professional career of over thirty years. The years spent at these two schools enabled him to expand his sense of family, because in the end, that's all that truly mattered to him. Whether he was coaching on the football field with his beloved brothers, at home with his wife and children, or enjoying Sunday dinner at his mother's home, family would always be everything. He led a life filled with love, purpose and faith, and through his good

works and the lives that were tremendously affected, Bob's legacy will always live on.
