Robert Steven Easley passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77.
Born in 1948 in Illinois, Steve was the youngest child of Ralph and Roberta Easley. He grew up alongside his older brother, Andy, and his sister, Deanne. Steve moved to California during his youth and completed his education, culminating with a degree in Civil Engineering from U.C. Berkeley, where he was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. It was during his time at Berkeley that he met the love of his life, Helen. The two married and began a beautiful life together in Long Beach.
Steve spent over 30 years working as a civil engineer in wastewater management for Los Angeles County, dedicating himself to public service. He was affectionately known as “The Cheese,” bringing humor and heart to his work. He received the prestigious Triple Crown Award and was proud of leading a two-year effort that resulted in the installation of a higher net at a golf course after district employees suffered injuries. He also had fun playing baseball with his co-workers on his district team, “The Over the Hill Gang.”
Steve was known for being trustworthy, detail-oriented, and thorough in everything he did. A natural leader, Steve always played an important role in any club or organization he was part of. Comfortable in his own skin, he often laughed at himself and enjoyed the fun others had with him. He was also a great dancer and enjoyed playing the guitar.
But Steve’s greatest joy was his role as a father. He adored his three children, Trisha, Denise, and Daniel, and cherished their summers at Forest Home camp and family vacations. He also enjoyed owning a boat with his friend, Dave, and taking waterskiing trips with friends and family. He delighted in every moment spent with them.
Steve took immense pride in watching his children grow and begin families of their own. He found great joy in being a grandfather to Anya, Elsie, Kylie, Lucas, and Madison. Nothing made him happier than having the whole family gathered together.
Steve converted to Catholicism and became an active member of St. Cornelius Church, becoming the Respect Life Chairman for four years. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his later years, guiding his actions and bringing him peace, especially through various challenging and complicated health issues.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; his sister, Deanne; his children: Trisha (John), Denise (Mike), and Daniel (Sarah); and his grandchildren, Anya, Elsie, Kylie, Lucas, and Madison. His legacy is one of love, laughter, family, and faith.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Cornelius Church, 3330 N. Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90808. A reception will follow in the large parish hall.
