A Life Forged in Steel
Dick Brown, the Welder, (Jordan high class of 1955), was born February 26th, 1937 to Harvey and Nellie Brown. At age 3 for fun Nellie entered Dick into a baby contest gaining him the title King Of Long Beach. Dick was Judy’s husband for 58 years. Mom and Dad ran off to Vegas to get married, their love affair wouldn’t wait. Dick and Judy were meant to be together. Just like their marriage couldn’t wait, not even death could keep them apart. Six weeks earlier, mom went to heaven to prepare a place for Dad and Dad knew better than to be late. Dick and Judy bought their first and last home in Lakewood. Living the Lakewood dream. All four of their kids played in the Lakewood parks, Lakewood leagues and attended High School in Lakewood. All the Brown kids played sports but first were taught never to steal, never to lie, have character and morals, say your prayers be humble and give thanks. Sons or daughter being raised by Dick Brown meant you knew how to cuss and how to fight, how to use a hammer and how to ride a dirt bike, how to open doors for ladies and how to play poker. You not only gave up your seat for an adult, you stood for the National Anthem. Dick Brown was a proud union welder, Local 250, (father Harvey among founding members). Dick had pride at being the top of his trade, a rig welder, pipe liner, a skilled craftsman (Dick proudly passed his knowledge of welding to those who wanted it). Dick believed an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work.
Mom and Dad loved the Lord and were proud of their Catholic faith. Dick and Judy unbeknownst to them were role models to many. Dick and Judy lived and laughed through life, holding nothing back, never giving in to adversity. Hold your head high and do the right thing, work hard, play hard, and put the lid back on his tobacco tight. Dick is survived by brothers Ray (Felicitas) and Bob, sister Andrea (Russ Hammond), daughter Shellee (Bobby Renaud), sons Dickie (Nancy), Derek (Erin), and DJ. Grandchildren Bo, Brody, H, Dickie, Carley, Major and Hudson, many nieces and nephew and many friends.
