May 16, 1946 – January 9, 2017

Richard Busch was born, May 16, 1946 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he lived with his parents, Alex and Frieda. He was an only child and surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. The Busch family moved to Vancouver area in 1956 to begin the U.S. Citizen Process and eventually moved to Hawthorne, California in 1957.

Richard attended Yukon Middle School and played Little League at Bodger Park. He attended Leuzinger High School and graduated in 1964. He graduated from El Camino Community College in 1967. He graduated in 1969 from California State University, Long Beach with a B.S. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He went on through the years working for TRW, Northrop Corp., Rockwell, Boeing and Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. He served in the Army National Guard for six years.

Richard can best be remembered by how passionate he was for competitive sports. He loved to ski and was the Captain of the CSULB Ski Team for 3 years. You could always find him on the top of a mountain somewhere. He liked motorcycles, especially racing desert Enduros and Motocross with his Montessa. He got hooked into sailing at an early age and ended-up racing his Cal 20 (Itchy-Foot), San Juan 24 (Juanita) and Zap 26 (Zap). He and his wife, Linda, were active members of Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club. He also loved the adventure of long distance racing and crewed on many sailboats to Mexico and the Transpac Races.

He loved his family owned ‘1967 RS Camaro’, which he took two years to refurbish to a spectacular classic automobile. He was active with ‘Cool Running Camaro’ club and won many awards with is car.

He was an avid fly-fisherman and fly-tyer. This inspired many vacations to Idaho, Montana, Utah and Arcularius Ranch in the Sierras, always with his camera near-by to take photographs of animals and nature that he so dearly loved to share. He was a very talented Nature-Photographer.

He was so passionate for life. The world is a better place because he was here.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda. He has relatives in Winnipeg and Alberta, Canada. He also has extended family in California and Texas.

He will be missed.
