September 26, 1928 – October 21, 2023

Richard Bamrick, son of Bridget & James Bamrick, died peacefully at the age of 95 on October 21, 2023.

Richard (“Dick”) was born in Cartersville, Iowa on a farm. There were nine kids, Martin, Mary Lorraine (Skyles), Joe, Jack, Dick, Helen (Kaplan), Roseanne (Solh), Margie (Nowell) and Paul. Dick was grateful to be raised on farms during the Great Depression.

Richard met his future wife (Patricia Freudenberg) at grade school in Rockwell, IA. After meeting again as adults, a long distance courtship ensued. Dick married the “love of his life” on November 23, 1950. They were married for 72 wonderful years until Patricia passed away in
December 2022.

Richard served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean War, based at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas. Moved to Long Beach, California and began teaching in the Long Beach Unified School District which continued for 37 years. He loved teaching & was known for humor, dedication &
flying erasers. Taught sixth-graders at Los Cerritos, Riley, Roosevelt, and Burcham schools. Received the Golden Key Award for Teacher of the Year in 1973 & was delighted to visit with former students.

Dick & Patricia had six children: Bridget, Rick, Tim, Mary Pat, Carole and Kirk. Family lived across from St. Cornelius Church, and Dick was very active (along with Patricia) in school & church events. Family loved car trips back to Iowa every two years or so to visit relatives.

Go Dodgers! Go Irish!

Richard had an Irishman’s wit and enjoyed discussions and debates. He had a big heart and a love for his family, faith and helping children learn. His daughter Mary Pat predeceased him (age 45) as did his lovely Patricia (age 93). His surviving family includes Daughter Bridget Rogers with granddaughter Brenda & Luke Voge and great-grandchildren Jakob and Ryann; grandson Bill & Brandi Rogers and great-grandchildren Jackson and Mackenzie; granddaughter Brianne & Nick Besteiro and great-grandchildren Gracelyn and Dylan and granddaughter Bridgie Rogers;
Son Rick & Alma and grandsons Rick and Seamus; Son Tim and granddaughter Athena; Daughter Carole and Son Kirk & Kerry and grandson Colin.
