Rex Alan Goss was a kind, patient, and unconditionally loving father, brother, uncle, husband and friend. He left this world on November 30, 2022 surrounded by his loved ones.

Rex was born on October 29, 1936 in Bakersfield, CA to Lewis Jacob Goss and Mable LaVerle Beckstead Goss. While he was young, his family became active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from East Bakersfield High School in 1955. He began to attend Brigham Young University, and later served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission.

After coming home from the mission, he went back to Brigham Young University where he met his first wife, Margaret Ann Linford (known as Ann to many people). They were married in the Los Angeles Temple on February 13, 1960. A few months later Rex received a draft notice and was stationed in Oklahoma when their first daughter of three, Danette was born. Rex was sent to Germany for two years. He came back in 1963 and completed his Bachelor’s degree with a major in Health at BYU. Rex and Ann had their daughter Colleen, in Provo, UT while Rex attended BYU and their third daughter, Sandra, was born in Bakersfield, CA while Rex worked for the Kern County Health Department.

Their family moved to Long Beach, CA  in 1967 and Rex began working for the Long Beach Health Department in 1971. Rex worked as a health inspector for 35 years, making many friends along the way. Ann passed away in December 1990. In 1993, Rex married Mable Therese Goss, and became a father to Jackie, Sammy, Jose and Ronnie. About a year later, Rex and Mable had a daughter, Lindsey, born to them in Long Beach.

Throughout his life, Rex became a loving father of eight, a grandfather of 16, and a great-grandfather to one and the love he had for his family was always shown through his bright smile and sweet words. He will be missed greatly but will remain in the hearts of many, always.

Rex’s life will be honored with a church service and Celebration of Life on December 22, 2022 at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 6500 E. Atherton Street in Long Beach, CA  90815. We invite all whose lives were touched by Rex to celebrate and share memories with us on this day.
