A loving mother, grandmother, wife and aunt. Rena was one of those very special people that few ever got the privilege of knowing. She was the person who tried to make everything right, no matter how wrong things went. She was often the brightest light in the room.
Rena was born on February 25, 1928, in South Gate, California. She was one of six children born to the late Thomas and Rena Alston. Rena grew up in Long Beach, California and Long Beach became the city where she would spend the rest of her life.
Rena met and married William Henigsman in June of 1951. After marrying, she worked as a secretary for McDonnell Douglas and as a teaching assistant at a small public school. Rena found her true calling in the antique business where she owned and operated a small antique store for over 25 years.
Rena’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She loved family get-togethers and was always heard laughing and telling the stories of her life. In addition to spending time with family, Rena’s favorite pastime was playing poker -- She didn’t care if it was a friendly game of kitchen poker or poker on the Las Vegas Strip. She was always ready for a game.
Rena touched the lives of many people with her smile, generosity and unconditional love. She even maintained her trademark laugh and sense of humor to the end.
Rena is survived by her loving son, William, his wife Stacy and their daughter Brielle. In honor of
Rena, they ask that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones and live each day to the fullest. For this is what Rena would want.
