Raymond Thomas Roberts passed away on September 7, 2023.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 48 years Donna Roberts and his children Stephen, Gary, Matthew, and Kimberly. Raymond was a cherished grandfather to Cheyenne, Delanie, Kade, Ryan, Chase, Andrew, Owen, Kenna, and Kolson. He was a great grandfather to Carter, Cannon, and Colton.

Born in Long Beach, California on August 9, 1944, to Lester and Hazel Roberts. Raymond was the fourth born of five children Lester and Hazel had. He was predeceased by his identical twin Robert E. Roberts, younger brother John Roberts, and older sister Jean.

Raymond attended Jordan High School in Long Beach and shortly after joined the IBEW local 11 electrical union. Where he was proudly a member for almost 30 years. Raymond was one that valued family, hard work, honesty, and integrity. If you lacked any of these values, he was very transparent in his opinion of you.

Raymond valued his family. As his kids were growing up, he spent his free time coaching baseball, softball, and soccer. After many hard days at work, you could find Raymond sitting on his bucket catching his son or daughter who were pitching to him. Raymond volunteered his time with Lakewood Village Little League and Heartwell Bobby Sox. In the offseason he would help coordinate work groups to help improve the ball fields for the season. As his children grew up, he evolved from father to mentor and ultimately friend. Raymond would take trips to Las Vegas often to spend time with his two older sons Stephen and Gary and their families.  He enjoyed their company and catching up while playing craps and teaching his adult children about the different strategies of the game.

As Raymond’s younger children became parents, he would spend his time nurturing and helping with his grandchildren. He would spend Friday nights playing air hockey and board games while enjoying good family bonding time. He never missed a grandchild sports game. He often took the grandchildren to the park to help them learn to throw a baseball or hit.

Sports was important to Raymond, he considered himself an Angels fan but would watch any baseball game on tv. If baseball was not on he would find a softball game, or college football game to watch.

Raymond was a man that more than anything loved being with his family and will be truly missed by many.

A memorial will be held on September 27th at 3pm at Luyben Dilday Family Mortuary.
