Paula Jane Abbott Skaugstad

Paula was born on August 27, 1938 in Compton, California to John Palmer Abbott and Pauline Louise Williams. She was an only child who lived in Compton until attending the University of Southern California where she was president of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Paula got her first teaching position at Janie P. Abbott School - an elementary school named after her grandmother who had been on the school board. She married and moved to Long Beach and a few years later had her daughter, Lori. Her family moved to Rossmoor and she taught at Rush Elementary, Lee Elementary, and Rossmoor Elementary in the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Paula and Lori both became very active at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Los Alamitos where she was an Elder and a member of the Chancel Choir. Paula was a devoted grandmother to her two grandsons, Jonathan and Ryan. After four years of battling Alzheimer’s, Paula went to be with her Lord on July 14, and reunited with her family! Paula is survived by her daughter, Lori Avalos, her son in law, Phil Avalos, grandson Jonathan and grandson Ryan.
