Patricia "Pat" Nichols

Patricia “Pat” Nichols was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed peacefully at home on January 20, 2024 at the age of 93. She was born on September 24, 1930 to Walter and Lelia Elgin in Towanda, Illinois and was the youngest of 7 children. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, 2 brothers Arthur and Jim and 4 sisters Ella Mae, Virginia, Pauline, and Belle.

After graduating high school in 1947, Pat completed a special course of instruction in X-Ray at The Palmer School Of Chiropractic’s in Davenport, Iowa. She returned to Bloomington working as an X-Ray Tech and in September 1950 went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Gene.  After dating for 6 months, they married in San Francisco on April 28, 1951 and resided in Long Beach. In 1956, they purchased their forever home in Lakewood and raised their family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene and is survived by her 3 daughters, Penni McDaniel (Pat Malone), Cindi Peterson (Marlin), and Patti Nichols; 4 grandchildren, Amy, Heather, Kyle and Kelly; 4 great grandchildren, Alexis, Jasmine, Eddie and Ivy and many nieces and nephews.

Pat worked for Lingle Bros. Coffee before having children and after they had graduated, she went back to work at Long Beach City College Bookstore.  She absolutely loved to travel and became a tour escort for Golden Tours and escorted trips to see the Fall Foliage, Mackinaw Island, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii and many trips to Lauglin. Pat loved to bowl and was on many women’s leagues before Gene retired and once he retired they started league bowling together. And most importantly she was a lifelong Angels Fan and was always ready to go to the games with her Rally Monkey in tow. Lastly, she absolutely enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids – they were the joy of her life.

Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on June 22, 2024 at Luyben Dilday Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd., Long Beach.
