A Life Remembered

Patricia Agnes “Patti” Demuth passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. She was born on April 27, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, the seventh of eight children to William and Minnie Gill. At the age of three, Patti moved with her family to Long Beach, California. The lively spirit of her Irish household shaped Patti into a resilient, resourceful, and endearingly witty individual.

Patti graduated from Jordan High School in 1956. She began her professional life as a dental assistant for Dr. Mulford Smith, DDS. After fainting during dental procedures, she willingly transitioned to the adjacent pharmacy. Patti found her calling at Abrams & Clark Pharmacy, where she advanced to the role of general manager and remained until her retirement.

Patti met the love of her life, Kaye Michael Demuth, and they were married at St. Athanasius Catholic Church on November 22, 1958. Together, they welcomed four daughters during the 1960s, cherishing every moment as a family. Their marriage was filled with joy and devotion, lasting sixty years until Mike’s passing in 2019.

Throughout her life, Patti found happiness in cooking, baking, and spending time with loved ones, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sharing her love of books with everyone she met. Patti was deeply involved in her community, volunteering alongside her husband during retirement to support Food Finders, a local nonprofit organization.

Patti was dearly loved by her family and friends. Her smile, humor, wisdom, and guidance will be missed and will continue to influence and inspire positive changes for generations to come. She is survived by her four devoted daughters: Catherine (Ernie) Pepe, Diane Demuth, Denise (Sinan) Otair, and Deborah (David) Lalonde. Patti’s legacy lives on through her ten grandchildren: Rachel Otair (Sean) Parris, Michael Otair, Daniel (Cait) Otair, Jack Otair, Tricia Pepe (Patrick) Crane, Nic (Alyssa) Pepe, Jason Lalonde, Matt (Becca) Lalonde, Sarah Lalonde, and Cate Lalonde. Her family also includes six beloved great-grandchildren: Colby, Kelly, Penelope, Avery, Zoey, and Jace, along with Teddy the cat.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for February 7 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Barnabas Church, located at 3955 Orange Ave., Long Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Barnabas Church or School, and/or Food Finders, Inc. at www.foodfinders.org
