Reflections on the Life of Pamela Rochelle Duncan Brown

Pamela was born on December 7, 1946 to Charles Winston Duncan and Frances Rosalyn Duncan in Los Angeles, California. Pamela was the second child to this union. Pam was raised in South Central, Los Angeles, and she attended Carver Elementary, Willowbrook Junior High, and graduated from Centennial Senior High on June 18, 1964.

Pamela accepted Christ at the age of ten, and was baptized at Bel-View Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. After Pam became an adult, she joined The Baptist Church of the New Covenant, in Norwalk California, under the leadership of Rev. L. Daniel Williams. Later in life, Pam united with Central Baptist Church in Carson, CA on March 25, 2018, under the leadership of Rev. Gerald Waddis, Senior Pastor.

Pamela began her career On February 28, 1979, working for Los Angeles County in a variety of civil and social service positions. In 1986, Pamela began working at the Compton Superior Court Building,  in various administrative and clerical positions in the Criminal and Civil Law divisions; until she retired on her birthday December 7, 2011, after 32 years of service. She was dedicated to her work and serviced countless Los Angeles residents. She was affectionately known as Ms. Pam throughout the halls of the courthouse.

Pamela’s journey with The Order of the Eastern Star began October 19, 1996, when she joined the Schechinah Chapter No.#1 OES, under Hannah Grand Chapter OES. On May 7, 1999, she became a charter member of Lady Electa Chapter No. 33 OES under Queen Adah Grand Chapter OES, working under the Most Worshipful Sons of Light Grand Lodge. Upon retiring in 2020, Pamela held the title of Grand Queen Bathsheba, and was presented with the title of Emeritus in all of the higher degree departments.

Pam loved to entertain, shop, cook, dance and host gatherings. She had a creative spirit, and produced accessories, stationery and other fashion items with her Pam’s Starlight Creations business. At markets and organizational events, you could find Pam at her booth, making friends and selling her wares. With a flair for fashion, she styled her way into any room. She believed in shining inside and out, and so with that, she had a spirit that welcomed all that knew her. She lived life to the fullest and was a woman that had class and style. Whatever she wanted, she could make it happen. When Pam said you were her friend, her sister or brother, confidant or partner, she meant it. You could count on her for a mailed note of encouragement, a telephone word of advice, and a warm meal if you needed it.

She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters: Kimberly Michelle Adame-Davis  of Compton, CA, Tiffany Lashon Williams and her husband Charles Williams of Ontario, California; Nicole Racquel Arms and her Significant Other Jeremy Moore of Dallas, Texas; and Stephanie Renee Gradington and her husband Michael Gradington of Artesia, CA. One Brother, Charles W. Duncan III, and his wife MaryAnn Duncan of Modesto, CA, 8 Grandsons, Devon Burnham, Justin Davis, Dillon Burnham, Cameron Bibb, David Burnham Jr., Dameon Burnham, Bryce Burnham, Zell Gradington and Three Granddaughters, Victoria Gradington, Olivia Gradington, and Saniyah Gradington, and a fourth granddaughter Nyla Moore, who will arrive on May 19th, 2023.
