James “Owen” Caverly was born on June 24, 1998. He was raised to know our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Bethany Church in Long Beach, CA. He became a big brother to Miles in 2001. Owen was educated at Burcham K-8, where he achieved the honor of Valedictorian. Owen attended Lakewood High School, where he wrestled on the Varsity team, made some good friends, and got into plenty of mischief. Owen graduated from high school with honors in 2016, and then he went his own way. Owen made an independent, honorable, and productive life for himself in Santa Barbara, CA from November 2016 until his passing on November 29, 2020.
As a small child, Owen loved super heroes, his favorite color was purple, and he was active and engaging. As he grew, Owen enjoyed school, cub scouts, family game night, Fridays at the park, church, camping, the beach, reading, and riding his scooter. As a teen, Owen hung out with friends and worked at Baskin Robbins and Lucille’s. As an adult, Owen enjoyed doing home projects, playing scrabble, skateboarding, listening to music, and playing the bass. Owen made his living and was proud of his work in an auto body repair shop.
Owen was creative, hard-working, reflective, and relational. Throughout his life, Owen had great love for his family. His close relationships with his brother and his grandparents, and his deep connection with his parents, grew ever stronger in the last years of his life. His frequent visits, acts of service, generous gestures of kindness, and his commitment to making things as right as possible will forever live on in our memories. In his last days, Owen was fiercely focused on his plans for the future. He found himself in heaven, instead. We love you, Owen. We will see you there.
