Otho “Bud” Palmer died December 5th in Long Beach, CA at the age of 85 following a series of illnesses. Bud is survived by his wife of 63 years, LouAnn, 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and a slew of pets.
Bud was born in 1932 in Long Beach to Otho and Leah Palmer just a few blocks from where he passed. Bud graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, and then worked at General Telephone Company for more than 35 years.
As a child, he moved frequently and lived in many port towns including San Diego, Seattle, and Hawaii. He was present at Pearl Harbor in 1941, witnessing the attack as a 9 year old. Having moved so frequently, stability was important to him, and he and his wife lived in the same locale for more than 55 years. Bud is particularly remembered by his family as having a robust optimism that allowed him to face challenges with positivity and aplomb.
Bud enjoyed camping and twice constructed campers that he took throughout the Western US every Summer. He was also a self-taught painter, enjoyed woodworking and DIY projects, and loved animals including his current dog Buddy, who misses him terribly.
No services are planned, but friends and family are welcome to stop by his Nephew Dave’s house in Long Beach on Monday, December 10th between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. to celebrate Bud’s life and visit with his wife. Donations to a charity of your choice in his name would be appreciated. Please contact the family for additional information.
We offer special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff who cared for Bud over the past 4 years, making his life comfortable and allowing him to live independently and happily.
