Norah Somerville Ger was born on November 18, 1923, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the 11th and last child of William and Mary Somerville.   She grew up in Vancouver, and on Salt Spring Island. Norah then went on to pursue a childhood dream of attending the School of Nursing at Vancouver Hospital where she excelled getting her degree in 1949.

Upon graduation, Norah adventured to New York City to launch her nursing career and enjoy the Big Apples sights and sounds; music and culture. In New York, she met and married Arnold Ger in 1952 and in 1953 they had their one and only child, son William. Taking a break here and there from nursing to be a full time Mom, Norah spent her time making wonderful recipes, sewing, and enjoying nature.

Norah and family moved several times for over many years for opportunity and adventure, to Long Island NY, Cleveland, Atlanta, Chicago and eventually to Long Beach, California, where Norah completed her career in Nursing with the VA hospital and then with the City of Long Beach in public health.

Norah and Arnold enjoyed fine wine and cuisine, classical music and travelled extensively by car around the US and Canada and many parts of the world by ship and by air. When Arnold passed in 2002, Norah invested more energy in her Catholic faith and spend time with her family.

Norah passed on May 25, 2020, age 96. She is survived by her son William, daughter-in-law Theresia and grandchildren Audrey and Megan.
