Devine, Noel John, of Richmond Street in Longford, Ireland, died peacefully Monday, January 16, 2017, at his home in Long Beach, California. Born on December 17, 1924 in Longford, Ireland, Noel was the last surviving sibling of sixteen children born to the late Thomas and Margaret Devine.
Noel emigrated from Ireland to California in 1961. He originally met his wife Mary in Ireland and then reunited with her in Long Beach in 1962. They were married in 1963. Noel never forgot his roots and his family; he and his family were regular visitors to Longford and elsewhere in Ireland and England over the years. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. A selfless and hardworking provider, Noel was a man of deep faith and kindness with the most genuine spirit. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Long Beach for more than 50 years and a faithful Catholic his whole life.
Noel will be fondly remembered for his love of old movies, taking photos ("Ready...steady...go!"), and all things automotive. His sense of humor was infectious. Even while his health was in decline, he could be counted on for a joke out of the blue in the Longford lilt that he never lost.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lynch Devine; daughter, Margaret Devine; son, Thomas Devine; daughter, Anne-Marie Devine Tasto (Matthew); granddaughter, Monica Mary Tasto; and a grandson to-be.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6180 E Willow St, (off Palo Verde) Long Beach, CA 90815.
