Nile L. Belcher passed away at 90 years old in Long Beach, California on December 28, 2018 at home from cancer.
Nile was born March 2, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edward Harvey Belcher and his mother Cora Myrtle Johnson. The family moved from Salt Lake City, Utah to Long Beach, California in 1938. He was predeceased by two brothers and six sisters.
Nile attended Horace Mann Elementary School, Jefferson Junior High School, Wilson High School and Poly High School.
Nile married Charlotte Rae Bechtel on March 26, 1949 in Long Beach, California.
Throughout his life, Nile worked in auto repair, life insurance, and as a production manager for Custom Designs. Early in his career, his auto body work and painting was exceptional, given his artist’s eye for matching colors. Later in his career, he enjoyed running his own home repair business. He took pride in a job well done and loved to see projects through from start to finish. After semi-retiring, he applied this care for detail into building his own cabin in Panguitch, Utah and developing his skill in marquetry (wood inlay).
Nile was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including Elder’s Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, and Executive Secretary. He was greatly involved in Boy Scouts and helped many young men over many years.
Nile is survived by his wife Charlotte Belcher, his children: Debra L. Belcher, D.C., Cheryl D. Palmer (Gary), Kevin N. Belcher (deceased), Robert N. Belcher (Carlos), seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
