Nancy Lee Taylor Miller, 90, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022. She was born in Los Angeles, California on April 10, 1931 to William (Bill) and Agnes (Smith) Taylor. She was an only child.
Nancy attended Saint Anthony High School in Long Beach, California, graduating in 1949. After graduating from high school, she was focused on either becoming a Catholic nun or getting married to Donald Miller whom she had been dating since she was 16 years old. Her Catholic faith was very important to her. The final decision on whether to become a nun or get married was determined once her boyfriend, Don, agreed to take instruction to become a Catholic. She married Donald Miller May 13, 1950. Donald and Nancy Miller settled in Long Beach, California, purchasing their home in 1952 one week before their first child, Karen, was born October 14, 1952.
Kathleen, Donald, David, Steven and Mary followed bringing the family to 8 in 1962. Nancy raised her children and lived in the home purchased in 1952 with her husband Don until his passing January 14, 2014. She sold the family home a year later and moved to a smaller home in Long Beach where she lived until she passed February 24, 2022.
Nancy’s life was committed to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all her life. The family home was always filled with music. Nancy, being an accomplished violinist as a teenager, encouraged all her children to choose an instrument to play. Family life included gathering for dinner every night, family nights around the fireplace, regular evening trips to Seal Beach and annual camping trips. Catholic spirituality was a constant presence in the home. Nancy attended mass daily until she was not able due to her health limitations.
Her profession was working in various capacities within the Catholic church after her children were old enough to allow her some time to pursue this passion. She worked for many years as a volunteer chaplain at a hospital in Long Beach. Again for many years, she volunteered as Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to the homes of Catholic faithful who were unable to get to Catholic mass (usually due to heath and/or age limitations).
Nancy was a very social person who always had a kind and thoughtful word to share with her family, friends and acquaintances.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Donald Miller, who passed January 14, 2014 and her daughter, Karen, who passed April 30, 2021. Nancy is survived by five children (Kathleen, Donald, David, Steven and Mary) and their spouses/life partners (Dennis, Nancy, Cherie, Helena and Jay), ten grandchildren (Hillary and her husband Paulo, Noah, Marcella, Jenni and her husband Sean, Lorraine, Robbie and his wife Becca, Khalil, Kaeden, Kamden and Devyn) and four great grandchildren (Quinn, Mckenzie, Connor and Matias).
A life well lived with many memories for her family and friends to cherish.
