Nancy Jo Ellis was born on November 11, 1932, in Phoenix Arizona. She was the oldest of 4 children (Nancy, Ed, Glenna and Patricia) to Hugh and Laura Belle McElhannon. At an early age, her family moved to Riverside, California. She attended Poly High in Riverside and was active in school clubs, softball, bowling and with the church her grandfather pastored. In 1950, she graduated high school and began working in the banking industry. She moved to El Paso, Texas for a period and lived with her aunt and uncle. Nancy returned to Riverside and upon her return, she began a lifetime relationship with her future husband, Jerry Ellis. They were married in 1952 and began their life of 66 years together from Washington, DC, to Fairbanks, Alaska, then off to San Luis Obispo, California, and ultimately settling in Long Beach, California.
Nancy had two sons (John and Mike) and lived for over 60 years in Long Beach. She worked many years for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and for S & J Chevrolet in Cerritos. She also taught classes in DMV registration and licensing.
She loved to travel with Jerry in their trailer across the country. From Alaska to Louisiana… And during the trips, their dogs were by their sides. She loved her dogs and cats!
In her later years, she and Jerry became active in the Petroleum Club and the Toppers group (ballroom dancing) both in Long Beach. They both said they truly enjoyed the friendships and time spend at those events.
Nancy joined Jerry in the afterlife on May 17, 2023. She was 90 years and was still asking about how her dog was doing and how the Dodgers did that day. She was kind and truly cared about others. She will be missed… but never forgotten.
