Morton David Kier
Our beloved husband, dad, grandparent and great grandparent
has been called home. He will be greatly missed.
Mort was born August 7, 1927 In Los Angeles, CA and had almost reached his 90th birthday when he passed away on June 26, 2017. He was the son of Everett and Grace (Mackenzie) Kier and the brother of Jane. The days of his youth were spent in Belmont Shore where he loved to swim in Alamitos Bay. After a short stint in the Army during WW2 he met Liz Welty. They were introduced while on a day trip to Catalina Island with St. Bart’s young adults club. It was the day after she had moved to Long Beach. Mort and Liz married in 1951 and had 66 wonderful years together. He spent 33 years working at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co before retiring. Mort enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, family history and spending time with his many friends. He often commented on how grateful he was for his close knit family. He is survived by his wife, Liz, daughters Debbie (Duane) Gentry, Betsy (Rick) Ostrich, sons Tim Kier, Pete (Connie) Kier, 7 grandchildren: Chance, Tracy, Jeff, Dan (Vanessa), Spencer, Andrew and Ben and 1 great granddaughter, Elizandra. Mort had a wonderful sense of humor and one of his favorite sayings was: “Behold the spider on the wall, ladies and gentlemen that is all”.
Services will be Friday, July 7, 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Long Beach.
