Max Delbert Baxter was born on September 12, 1933 to Lew Delbert and Myrtle Fackrell Baxter in Trenton, Utah. He passed away peacefully on August 12, 2015 in Long Beach, California, following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. After graduating from high school in Pocatello, Idaho in 1951, Max joined the Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Fresno State University and a Juris Doctorate from Pacific Coast University. Max was hired onto the Long Beach Police Department in February 1961, and he retired in July 1989 as a sergeant, after more than 28 years of service. Following his time with the LBPD, he worked for 10 years as a Probate Court Investigator for Los Angeles County. In his retirement years, Max and his wife, Jeanne traveled the country, enjoying time with fellow retired LBPD officers and their families. More than anything, he loved spending time with family, faithfully attending performances and games of his grandchildren. Max is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jeanne; two sons, Brian (Kristy) Baxter and Grant Baxter; two daughters, Jill (Brian) Richards and Cheryl (Stacy) Trotter; and his step-children, Rick (Kelly) Yarger and Lorilyn Yarger-Craig (Phil Mobley); 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 30th, at 11 a.m. at Luyben-Dilday Mortuary, 5161 Arbor Rd. Long Beach, CA. Reception immediately following at the Long Beach POA Park. Located at the Long Beach Town Center, entrance access behind Lowe's.
