Mary Jo (Josephine) Holloway, born Mary Jo Morgan in Drumright, Oklahoma on February 21, 1936, passed away January 6, 2023, just short of her 87 th Birthday, surrounded by her family and close friends.
Even though Mary Jo had significant health challenges in the past several years, she was always her feisty self and remained engaged with her family, friends, neighbors and the world around her.
Mary Jo was the only child of Loma and Bill Morgan and they lived in Kansas for the first 10 years of her life. Her family moved to California in 1946 and settled in the Wrigley area of Long Beach. Mary Jo attended LaFayette Grammar School, Washington Jr. High and Poly High School. At Poly, Mary Jo was a member of the Scarabs Social Club and “hung out” with Members of the Cutouts Car Club. She graduated from Poly in 1954 and was on the Poly High School 1954 Reunion Committee up until their last reunion just a few years ago. She also went on to receive an AA degree from Long Beach City College.
Mary Jo met Don Holloway while working at the Broadway Department Store, and they married in March of 1958. A few years later they settled into their home on Tulane in Lakewood Village in Long Beach where Mary Jo remained until her death. Mary Jo and Don were married for 53 years until Don passed away in 2011.
Above all Mary Jo loved her family. Her other passions included: traveling (like weekend ski trips to Big Bear and family road trips to Kansas); watching her children play sports; shopping anywhere/anytime (including buying Cadillacs); and remodeling her house. She always enjoyed her four-legged family members as well and held a special place in her heart for her dog Jasper.
Mary Jo is survived by her Children Bret (Peggy) and Lisa; her Grandchildren, Brendan (Anika), Blair (Lauren) and Molly; and her three great-grandsons Ford (9), Grey (6) and Rex (2), children of Brendan and Anika.
In Mary Jo’s remembrance a service will be held at Luyben Dilday Mortuary in Long Beach on Tuesday, January 17 th at 2:00pm. Viewing at 1:00pm
